Dragon Art on Ebay

Top 10 Things to Lookout For When Buying Dragon Art on Ebay

1. You contact the seller to ask a question and the seller offers to sell it to you offline at a lower price. This is against ebay terms and reputable sellers don’t do this. If a seller is not going to live up to ebays written terms do you really think he will live up to yours.

2. Seller does not offer or guarantee authenticity (no return policy) or has expensive non refundable shipping costs. Top quality sellers stand behind their products and charge realistic shipping and handling costs. Many scammers will charge more than the item is worth for shipping to discourage returns.

3. Seller is from China, unfortunately almost everything from China is fake. If your buying because you like the item from a decorative stand point feel free to buy from China as there are many bargains but don’t pay a premium for something that is suppose to be antique. You have to understand they have factories pumping out these forgeries. Go with dealers from the US/Canada

4. Are the sellers pictures real? Have they sold the same item over and over using the same pick to sell this supposedly rare item. Check the sellers feedback and closed auctions to see if this really is a one of a kind item.

5. Seller will not take paypal. Many sellers who are selling fakes worry about charge backs and only want certified funds or money orders.

6. Ask the seller questions. Don’t assume things, if the seller is to lazy to respond to your question now what kind of a response do you think you will get after the sale. Top sellers love questions because it saves them trouble after the sale.

7. This is one of my favorites, many sellers of fakes will send a dirty item and even go so far as to include a handful of dirt with your item. I guess this is to make you believe it was freshly excavated from some ancient tomb. A legitimate seller will make sure your item is properly packed and sent safely minus the dirt.

8. Look at the sellers feedback not just his score make sure you check recent activity by the seller. Don’t rely only on feedback as many buyers do not leave negative feedback.

9. Don’t put to much stock in the sellers story, make sure you are not paying extra or relying on the item being authentic because the buyer says its from a estate sale. Ebay is about getting bargains and there are many bargains to be found on ebay. You can get items for literally pennies on the dollar so don’t get stuck on one item.

10. Get a second opinion right when you get the item. It never hurts to have another opinion even if you can tell ivory from bone.

Don’t be scared get shopping on ebay for dragon art and asian art there are to many bargains and reasons not to.

To Scared to buy online? It May Cost You $500,000

beerLast few post have been about the dark side of online auctions. Do not let that stop you from buying dragon artwork or other collectibles online. You may very well find that bargain of a life time, it happens everyday. Many people do not know what they have when it comes to Chinese art. They get a painting or carving from inheritance and have no clue how to list it or its value. When things are listed wrong, that’s your chance to make some serious cash

A rare bottle of beer was misspelled in the title of the auction and sold for $304 on ebay. The buyer promptly relisted it with the correct spelling on ebay and it sold for over $500,000. So its definitely worth looking for listings that might be incorrect as very often those selling paintings have very little knowledge of what they have. You can email the seller and ask some questions but don’t give the buyer to much of a tip off though. Its also best to start off small and buy less expensive works at first so you get comfortable with the process. Try and bid later in a auction, running the price up early will cost you money. You can use software like bid sniper if you really want to get your bids in at the very close of the auction.

Buying online is definitely cheaper than using dealers for collectibles. I have purchased many authentic items in the $10-$100 range that would of cost $300-$1000 offline. So don’t be scared the good definitely out weighs the bad. I sometimes think all the horror stories about buying online are spread by people getting all the bargains, just to keep the rest of you people offline.
